Integration with Facebook Messenger

Last updated:

Connect your ChatLab chatbot to Facebook Messenger so it automatically answers messages sent to your Facebook Page. The setup takes a few clicks - you log in with Facebook, pick your Page, and ChatLab handles the rest. No tokens, no webhooks, no developer tools.

What the Integration Provides

When connected, your chatbot answers every text message sent to your Facebook Page on Messenger. Conversations appear in the Chatlogs tab marked with a blue Messenger icon, next to your regular widget conversations.

All standard bot features work on Messenger - training data, AI model settings and connected integrations. Each bot reply uses message credits exactly like widget traffic.

Requirements

Before you start, make sure you have:

  1. Admin access to the Facebook Page you want your chatbot to answer for.
  2. A Meta Business Portfolio (business account in Meta Business Suite) that contains the Page. ChatLab uses long-lived business tokens that never expire, and Meta issues them only through a Business Portfolio login. If you do not have a portfolio yet, create one for free at business.facebook.com and add your Page to it.
  3. A ChatLab plan with the Messenger integration - check the pricing page or your subscription settings.

The Page must be published. Unpublished or draft Pages cannot receive messages from customers.

Connecting Messenger

  1. Log in to ChatLab and select your chatbot.
  2. Open the Deploy tab and select Facebook Messenger in the Messaging channels section of the Select Platform panel.
  3. Click Connect with Facebook.
  4. In the Facebook popup, log in and select the business portfolio that contains your Page.
  5. Share access to the Page you want to connect. If you share several Pages, ChatLab will ask you to pick one.
  6. Done - the panel shows your connected Page name, the card gets a green dot, and your chatbot starts answering Messenger messages.

ChatLab automatically stores a secure connection to your Page and subscribes to new messages. You never see or manage any tokens.

Testing the Integration

Send a message to your Page from a different Facebook account (for example from your private account, using the m.me link or the Message button on your Page). The chatbot should reply within a few seconds, and the conversation should appear in Chatlogs with the Messenger icon.

Current Limitations

  • The chatbot answers text messages. Attachments, stickers and reactions are ignored in this version.
  • Replies are sent immediately in response to an incoming message, within Meta's standard 24-hour messaging window.
  • Live chat takeover from the ChatLab admin panel is not yet available for Messenger conversations.

Disconnecting

Open the Deploy tab, select the Facebook Messenger card and press Disconnect. The chatbot stops answering Page messages immediately. Conversation history stays in Chatlogs. You can reconnect at any time.

Troubleshooting

The bot does not answer messages

  • Make sure you shared the correct Page during the Facebook login. Disconnect and connect again, paying attention to the Page selection screen.
  • Check that the Page is published and that Messenger is enabled for the Page.
  • Check that your subscription includes the Messenger integration and that your message credits are not exhausted.

I do not see my Page in the popup

  • The popup lists Pages that belong to the business portfolio you selected. Make sure the Page is added to your portfolio in Meta Business Suite (Settings, Accounts, Pages).
  • Make sure your Facebook account has admin access to both the portfolio and the Page.
